Nobody throws a party like Graydon Carter, and this dinner in honour of the legendary director drew a typically A-list crowd.
The celebrities dining on truffle risotto and sipping rosé on the terrace overlooking the Med included Jennifer Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony, Naomi Campbell and her Russian oligarch Vladimir Doronin, Kate Beckinsale, Benicio Del Toro, Aishwarya Rai, Salma Hayek, Jennifer Hudson, Aishwarya Rai, Gabriel Garcia Bernal, Harvey Weinstein and Wall Street director Oliver Stone.
Gucci also sponsored the event, and dressed many of the guests including J-Lo, who showed off her famous derriere in a grey silk cocktail dress.
She spent some of her evening in conversation with Kate Beckinsale, who is a member of this year’s jury but almost didn’t make it to Cannes because of the volcanic ash cloud.
“My plane was delayed so I missed the first night jurors’ dinner I was worried that people would really hate me when I got here because I was late, but they are such a lovely group of people and they really welcomed me.”
Graydon Carter has joined the acting fraternity himself, appearing in a cameo opposite Michael Douglas in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.
“You may call it a cameo – I call it a role,” he said with tongue firmly in cheek.
“And it’s a very pivotal scene, you know. But to be honest, I’m not giving up the day job.”
